Monday, Monday

Hah! I beat the WordPress weekly reminder 🙂

So, today is Monday and it’s Martin Luther King Day.

I had an appointment across town near St Anthony’s this morning, and decided to call a taxi early !

Reason being….all kinds of streets and their intersections are blocked off ! I was not able to ride my Scoot over there, because of getting stuck on the way back by all the blockades.

All turned out well, anyway. It’s just the cost of the taxi , round trip.

I have had lunch, checked my two email accounts, straightened up around  my place, stood watch at the front desk for the desk clerk while she took a  bathroom break, and called a friend who is out of the area.

Now I’m waiting on a return call from a friend , Charlie, who will go up with me to Gateway Shopping Center. I need several items from there, and also need to look around. Office Depot is my most very favorite shopping  retail store.

Scoot Takes Me Places !

Scoot is what I affectionately call my little scooter, which is a Shoprider Echo 3 Model # SL73. I will be driving Scoot to the Doc’s in about an hour, and ten will come right back home.

I feel so great at the moment, because the injection is all wore off, lol. Sounds weird, but it lasts in my body usually for a week past the time I get injected again, every Wednesday.

An update on my walking: I’m not able to walk for blocks at a time, however, I am able to walk around in my apartment and also outside  and also I’m able to catch a bus  and go to the store without Scoot if the store is close to the bus stop.

Yay for determination and small accomplishments. One. Day. At. A. Time. 🙂

I hope to visit some blogs today when I get home, if the injection does’nt zap me first !

That’s all for now. 🙂

This is the next custom art I will order for my bedroom.

What Really Happened Wednesday May 11th 2011

Yesterday began with the usual…getting out of bed and walking to the bathroom , for which I am very thankful to be walking around my apartment  once again. I showered and got ready to start my day.

Scoot was still charging , so I did’nt unplug him until it was time to leave  for my appointment. Around 8:45 a.m. Scoot and I left for the doctor’s building in back of  Bayfront hospital.

My R.A. doctor’s nurse, Ginny, is kind enough to give me my injection every Wednesday until my other doctor gets back from his volunteer duties over in Africa , which will be  June 20th.

It did’nt take us long to drive over there, but had to be very alert and wary of dumb speeding drivers hurrying on their way to work. If  some of them keep on driving like they do, one of these days, they will end up in ER or worse.

I only had to wait for ten minutes and my name was called. Before five minutes were up, Scoot and I were on our way out of there. Super ! 🙂

I spent some time with my friend Bob after getting home, as he needed to have company. He’s used to working part-time, but is still on doctor’s orders to remain at home. He is doing well .

Last night I was over in http://www.singsnap.com  and had some fun singing and listening to others.

I took two naps during the day because  methotrexate will make one zap out whether one does not wish to sleep, or not !

Other than this, I just rested and relaxed. I so want to dance ! Those days are over though…because of my knees, and my lung capacity.

I might as well write a bit about today as long as I’m writing.  There’s not much going on, LOL ! 😀 I drove down to the post office and mailed a letter , and then  went over to Publix food market. The ride home was nice  and hot! It’s great to be out in the sunshine ! 😀

What I Did Today

Today began slowly…very slowly. I was still in my  PJ’s at 10:00a.m. as I was talking with my Mom up in Michigan. We chatted about an hour and  after putting down the phone, picked it right up again and called my friend Bob, to see if he needed any help from me today.

He did.  So I showered and got dressed, made my bed and unplugged Scoot , ready to get going. We went down to Bob’s apartment and got the money from him for the items he needed at CVS and Publix.

Then after  dropping off the purchases at his apartment, came home and ate a light lunch. Scoot and I were off again, this time on the bus to northeast shopping area. I had  Actonel to pick up…yikes, that was an $85.00 ‘co-pay.’

I drove around the shopping center for a few minutes before my bus number 38 was due to arrive behind the shopping center. The driver recognized me and was great to see “Ruth” again. Then as we were going along the familiar route back to downtown, we stopped at the buildin where I was supposed to have moved to last Fall.

One of my many friends from there , Janet, was surp[rised to see me on the bus, too. 🙂 We chatted the rest of the way downtown, until we came to our stop.  I’m going to be putting in a new application for that apartment building this week sometime. Then I will be added to the waiting list.

Eye Surgery and Today’s Happenings

My friend Bob came through his eye surgery really great! He has a large metal patch over his right eye and there’s a blue patch under that one. The top one is like a protector of sorts. He can see now !! He came up to my apartment after my friend Chris drove him home from the hospital this afternoon. There was a small problem, but they fixed it and that’s why it took longer than expected.

I fixed the contrast on his computer for him, as he had it extremely high. After asking if there was anything he needed me to do, I came back home and he has eaten and  is “resting .”

My day began as I woke up and sat on the edge of my bed, picking up my cell phone and calling Bob before he was to leave for his ride to the hospital. Let me tell you, last night I was saying “heavy-duty” prayers for him !

After showering and eating breakfast, Scoot and I drove done to the post office and sent off a couple of paid bills. Ahhhh, that felt good to have them paid! 🙂

Then we took the curves and intersections at a pretty good speed, but carefully, and went to the pharmacy, CVS and picked up two prescriptions and then checked out and drove across the street to Publix grocery store for a few food items I was out of.

I have yet to call Mom and see how she is today , after going to the casino up at Soaring Eagle in Michigan. My sister Janet,  took her there for Mother’s Day gift. Mom loves all the noises up there, so she says, haha. 😉

Now I’m relaxing after a worrisome morning and have even did a recording in SingSnap today that’s by the Ronettes, a singing group from back in the 60’s.  It was fun, and I chose a theme in red and golds for the background.

Now it’s time for supper already ! My goodness, where does the time go !? Today has been sunny and hot and is chamber of commerce weather here now. We will enjoy this while we can, because soon, we will be super hot until near the end of October!

That’s all for now. 🙂

Currently Unable To Walk, But Still Able

Due to my knees both having severe rheumatoid arthritis, a build-up of sonovial fluid which has cause Baker’s Cysts in both knees, and Meniscus tears, I’m not able to walk  except for  three to five steps at a time. That is slowly, and not bending either knee if I can help it.

I was at my Primary Doc this morning and he checked both legs, knees and feet and has referred me to an orthopedic surgeon. My R.A. and bone specialist Doc was letting this go until my next appointment with him on October 22, 2010 !

My goodness! Why wait so long? It’s better to have the consultation as soon as possible , therefore, a referral is the correct thing to do, for roght now! I commend my primary Doc for seeing to this for me, and understanding  that time is crucial to my everyday functioning!

I am able to still do lots of things! Some I just have to figure out how to do differently. Some cannot be done at all. That’s where a little kind help comes in. I had to tell myself “it’s okay to ask for help.” 🙂

I’m one that has always survived and done things for myself, loving to help others.

Knee surgery on not one, but both knees is something I don’t look forward to.  However, I do look forward to walking normally again. !

I’m thankful for my little scooter, affectionately named “Scoot” 🙂 Scoot is my feet for now. He takes me anywhere I need to go, even around here in my apartment, from the desk to the kitchen, to the bathroom, down the hallway to the elevators, etc.

I am a survivor of lots of health issues and feel blessed for everyday that God gives me. 🙂
